Friday Day 1: Behind the 8-Ball Already!
Friday was the first day of actual development after our kickoff last night. The plan is to port some game code I wrote that had the game shell set up…how hard could that be? But first, I drew a diagram of what I was thinking of doing over the week: a basic 2D top-down maze that had elements of Star Maze and Sinistar from the early 1980s.
It turned out that the code I had written “not that long ago” was eight years old and predated many of the modern build tools for Javascript. I could have sworn that I had an updated version, but perhaps I imagined it. It’s still useful to see what concepts I can rebuild for 2024, but a week isn’t a very long time so this will be quite a race.
I’m keeping a much more detailed “Live Dev Diary” in the #jamshire-discuss board in our Discord, which should be fun to review at the end of the jam!
